The development of the 2019 BMW X7 has reached its final phase as shown in its latest teaser video where the model undergoes heavy tests on a number of challenging terrains.
With the all-new SUV scheduled to debut in the coming months, various types of testing has been carried out to complete the development cycle. The X7 was put through its paces in Arjeplog, Sweden close to the Arctic Circle. The purpose is to provide it with the icy and snowy challenges it needed.
Since the SUV is built also with the customers from dry lands in mind, it was brought to African deserts and gravel roads too. There its endurance was tested in long-distance drivings. The test was further extended to some urban jungle areas to ensure the vehicle’s capability of going through busy stop-and-go-traffic, winding roads, and the highway without a problem.
From the test results BMW concludes that its X7 is an impressive off-roader with “superior driving dynamics.” The automaker suggests that the SUV will come with exclusive features and a very spacious interior.
Judging from the 2019 X5 it is based on, the X7 may have the same engine choices of a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with 335 HP and a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with 456 HP. Rumors have been circulating that a high-performance version may also be offered with a V8 engine producing 522 HP and 553 lb-ft of torque. Other possibilities could include a couple of diesel engines and a hybrid powertrain.
In the end, we will have to wait until the SUV breaks cover to know more about its details, and seems like there’s no more appropriate event for its premiere than the 2018 LA Auto Show.
