New details has emerged about the 2020 Pininfarina PF0 after the company let some potential buyers see the upcoming all-electric hypercar in private. It’s also reported that Automobili Pininfarina will work hand in hand with Rimac, which will provide the drivetrain and battery technology for the new EV.
Rimac takes this as a new challenge and is “very excited” to be part of the PF0’s development. The Croatian car company is optimistic about the outcome of this technical partnership. It believes the combination of Rimac technology and Pininfarina design will make “a perfect synergy” for a new, very special hypercar.
According to Pininfarina, the PF0’s powertrain will deliver a whooping 1,900 HP and 1,700 lb-ft of torque. With that much of grunt, the beast is expected to be capable of doing 0-62 mph under two seconds, and its top speed could be above 250 mph. Meanwhile, the driving range is estimated to exceed 300 miles.
With Rimac having a hand in it, we can see the PF0 becoming a potentially strong product. Besides, Pininfarina’s design expertise should also give the hypercar a striking look.
To support the development, the Italian car design firm has appointed new staff members that have solid backgrounds in the car industry. Positioned as Chief Technology Officer is Christian Jung, former director for E-Mobility Systems Design at Porsche. He previously also worked as Project Manager Hybrid Battery Systems at BMW.
Serving as PF0 Senior Technical Advisor is Peter Tutzer, who used to work at Bugatti, Porsche, and Pagani. A German racing driver Nick Heidfeld has been appointed as the company’s development driver. He has experience in F1, Formula E, and FIA World Endurance Championship.
With these talented persons contributing to the development, we think the PF0 will be an exhilarating hypercar when it arrives in 2020.
