Breaking cover at the New York Fashion Week, the one-off Kia Telluride SUV comes with quite a lot of upgrades that further strengthens its identity as a crossover. The new features include driving lights, a snorkel, winch, side ladder, spare tire carrier, rooftop cargo carrier, and off-road tires with 20-inch alloy wheels.
Kia is expected to pull the wraps off the production version at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show before it hits the market sometime in the same year. It’s clear that the eventual production Telluride will look less ferocious than this particular unit shown at the New York Fashion Week. But the important point here is that this model wants to show us some fundamental changes compared to the previous 2016 concept.
The headlights have a redesigned lighting signature as they’re now vertically expanded, the taillights are also look much bolder than before, while the doors use a conventional setup instead of the old suicide configuration. The grille has a flat honeycomb design and its chrome trim is thicker than the previous version. We can also see the ‘Telluride’ badging on the front and rear of the car.
The production model will most likely ditch the tan leather trim that is present now on the show car’s wing mirrors and door handles, although the wood dash kits and the bright leather interior could be carried over.
The 2020 Kia Telluride is set to go on sale in the early part of next year. The SUV will pack a V6 engine and have the Georgia plant as its assembly home.
