Maserati has added fierce competition into the SUV market by revealing the 2019 Levante Trofeo at the 2018 New York Auto Show on Wednesday. The Trofeo is considered as one of the fastest SUVs on earth to date. How not? It has one of the most powerful engine that Maserati has ever used, namely a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8, which is paired to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.
The Ferrari engine gives the Trofeo a huge performance boost compared to the regular version Levantes which are powered by a pair of 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 making 345 HP and 424 HP respectively. Now with a massive V8, the new all-wheel drive SUV can deliver a whopping 590 HP and 538 lb-ft of torque.
Speed-wise, the Levante Trofeo can accelerate to 60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds and its top speed surpasses 186 mph. That’s actually a ferocious speed for an SUV, considering that the 2018 Levante is already fast enough. Nevertheless, it seems Maserati thought the Trofeo still needs to be faster.
Well, at least that enables the luxury SUV to beat its competitors like the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, Lamborghini Urus, Bentley Bentayga, and Range Rover Sport SVR in terms of performance.
The high-performance Levante Trofeo sports a very similar outside look to the regular V6 version, despite having a slightly revised face which wouldn’t be noticed by most people.
Maserati Levante was first introduced in 2016. It has managed to gain positive reviews as well as strong sales figures. In 2017 there are over 10,000 units sold worldwide. So we can expect the new 2019 Trofeo to inherit the previous Levantes’ popularity, even though it will be an exclusive model for the “overseas export markets”, including US and Canada. Last but not least, we still don’t know how much it will cost.
