This year seems like a good year for performance SUVs because we hear a lot about them on the news. Among the latest ones to be reported are the V8-powered Maserati Levante GTS and Trofeo, whose availability have been confirmed in the UK.
The Trofeo made its debut at the New York Auto Show in 2018, followed by the GTS at Shanghai. Both use a 3.8-liter V8 twin-turbocharged engine derived from a Ferrari. When launched, people thought the Levante wasn’t the hottest SUV. Instead, they guessed it was the Jaguar F-Pace SVR. But they were wrong of course, as the former turned out to be more powerful. The Levante can hit 60 mph from a standstill in under 4 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 190 mph.
The cheaper of the two Levantes is the GTS, which starts at £104,900 and delivers 530 horsepower. Maserati has redesigned the SUV’s exterior in an “elegant” way, giving it an “even more aggressive and head turning presence”. The GTS is at least £5,000 more expensive when compared to its closest competitor – the Porsche Cayenne Turbo.
The Trofeo, meanwhile, is priced from £124,900. Maserati says this is an “unmistakable” model. Although its price is higher than those of common German competitors, it does pack more horsepower, which is rated at 580.
Even more “unmistakable” than the regular Trofeo is without a doubt the Launch Edition model, which is distinguished by additional carbon fiber and three unique colors include Blu Emozione, Giallo Modenese, and Rosso Magma. Maserati will limit the number of the Launch Editions sold in the UK to just 50 units. In order to take one home, you need to shell out £159,900.
These Levantes are among the best SUVs money can buy, especially for those who love a balance between style and performance, something that the cars can offer. Sales have started today if you want to place an order, although the dynamic launch will happen next month at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
