The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 has set a new record on Thursday for the fastest production sedan to lap the Laguna Seca. This time again, with the help of Randy Pobst, a professional race car driver who helped the automaker break the EV lap record at the same circuit last month.
Previously, Pobst drove the Jaguar I-Pace all-electric performance SUV and set the fastest lap time of 1:48.18. In his latest romping with the XE SV Project 8, he is even faster by more than 10 seconds at the Laguna Seca. He smashed the previous time with a 1:37.54.
The Laguna achievement adds to the list of Jaguar’s lap records, including the one at the Nürburgring for the fastest street-legal sedan, where the XE SV Project 8 set a time of 7:21.23 in late last year. The development of the super sedan was kept going until June when the production started. The automaker believes that the XE SV Project 8 is now capable of breaking another Nürburgring record even if it’s driven by customers.
Limited to only 300 units, the XE SV Project 8 packs a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine putting down 592 HP and 516 lb-ft of torque. The output is transferred to all wheels through an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. A rear wing and limited-slip differential are also there to help the sedan stay composed when making a turn in fast and slow corners respectively. The acceleration from 0-60 mph takes just 3.3 seconds while the top speed hits 200 mph.
The suspension is equipped with an adjustable ride height and camber, and the dampers are adaptive. You will also get more downforce once the saloon enters Track Mode. All of these will cost you £149,995 or around $200,000. You can then choose whether the 8 should have back seats or not. The latter choice will give you the Track Pack featuring front carbon fiber racing seats, four-point competition harnesses and a harness retention hoop.
