2021 Mercedes S-Class Hits the Nurburgring

All-new Mercedes S-Class test mules have been spotted in different places in Stuttgart this year. But recently, Automotive Mike has gotten a very nice footage of one accelerating around the Nurburgring circuit.

The all-new S-Class is currently Mercedes’ most prominent model under development, so it deserves a lot of attention and checking on its every side. It’s being developed based on a new platform and hence it will bring a lot of changes.

The car is expected to have a bolder presence thanks to the standard long wheelbase and wider tracks. Its design will also be revamped in many ways to convince our eyes that this is a completely new S-Class, as well as to make the outgoing model feel old. Among the new features will be the flush mount door handles and wrap-around taillights.

Automation will also be an important part of this sedan, given its flagship class in the full-sized luxury segment. The system will compete with other systems from different brands like BMW’s reverse assist and Audi’s traffic sign recognition. The 2021 S-Class, meanwhile, is thought to feature more advanced communication system between cars as well as the promised Level 3 autonomy.

If there’s something in the car that will keep the driver busy, it will undoubtedly be the bigger infotainment display. The 12-inch display in front of the driver will be accompanied by a tablet slanted onto the middle of the dashboard. On there all the important functions of the car can be accessed more easily.

We still don’t know what exactly the W223 S-Class has under its hood. Judging from its sound, however, the car seems to be motivated by a straight-six powerplant like the one found in the GLE 450. One thing for sure is that Mercedes will still offer diesel units in Europe.
