Toyota has announced pricing for its new sports car coupe the 2019 86. Just like before, the price starts at $29,990 for the base model which sits on standard 17-inch alloy wheels. Other standard features include air conditioning, 7.0-inch infotainment system with Bluetooth, variable intermittent wipers, and heated power side mirrors. The default transmission uses a six-speed manual, with the $1,200 automatic one offered as an option.
Moving up in the lineup, the 86 GT is priced from $33,260. New features that it brings include redesigned seats with leather side bolsters and suede-like inserts, dual-zone automatic climate control, an upgraded driver information display, LED fog lights, rear spoiler, and passive key entry. The GT also offers automatic transmission as a $1,200 option.
Now we come to what makes this year’s lineup different. It’s the addition of the TRD Special Edition as the new range-topper. The “ultimate performance” 86 has a limited-production run of only 1,418 units. It packs the same equipments as the GT, but also exclusively comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, a manual transmission, dual exhaust system, performance aero kit, Sachs dampers, and Brembo brake system. The interior is red-stitched with exclusive Raven Black paint as well as TRD logo. All the exclusivity costs $38,220.
Mechanically the same as its predecessor, the 2019 Toyota rear-wheel-drive 86 is powered by a 2.0-liter horizontally-opposed four-cylinder engine making 205 HP and 211 Nm of torque with manual transmission. With autobox, the output becomes 200 HP and 205 Nm, but it benefits from automatic rev-matching capability on downshifts when commanded by paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel.
