The 2019 Acura MDX Sport Hybrid has gone to sale with a price tag of $52,800 (excluding $995 delivery fee). It costs just $1,500 more than the MDX SH-AWD variant with the Technology Package despite packing much more of a punch. It has all the features that people want from a mid-level premium third-row SUV.
Four new color options are available for 2019 include Majestic Black Peal, Canyon Bronze Metallic, Gunmetal Metallic, and Performance Red Pearl. The interior is also refreshed with new wood trim, contrasting seat and door panel stitching, 12-way adjustable front seats, and 4-way lumbar support.
Why did we say the 2019 MDX Sport Hybrid packs much more of a punch compared to the SH-AWD with the Technology Package? Well, that’s because of the extra 31 HP and adaptive dampers as standard. Besides, the Sport Hybrid is nearly 37-percent more fuel efficient when driven in the city.
Making efficiency a focus doesn’t mean the crossover will be lacking in performance. In fact, it gets 321 HP and 391 Nm from the team work of a 3.0-liter V6 engine that drives the front wheels and three electric motors that handle the rear axle.
“Ultra-fast gear changes” can be done with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission in automatic or manual mode through steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Better control in corner can also be achieved thanks to the specifically designed electric motors that add torque to the outside rear wheel when cornering.
For those wanting a more expensive option, the Advance Package is there to raise the total cost to $59,550 in exchange of the higher-level of features that it gives. However, it’s worth noting that the fuel economy figures remain the same at 26 mpg in the city, 27 mpg on the highway, and 27 mpg combined.
