2017 Aston Martin Lagonda Taraf for Sale in the US

An extremely rare Aston Martin Lagonda Taraf has been listed for sale in California, making people curious about its origin and who will have enough money to take it home. People, especially Americans, have the right to be curious; because this is the first time a Lagonda Taraf hits the US.

In case you don’t know, the 2017 Aston Martin Lagonda Taraf was build to compete in the segment of ultra-luxury sedans, rivaling other marques like Mercedes-Maybach and Rolls-Royce. The name Taraf itself is actually an Arabic word that roughly means “party”. The super sedan comes with a body that is made of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP). Under its hood lies the boorish 6.0-liter V12 engine that pumps out 533 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. That output is enough to send the car from 0-60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. If you push it long enough, the Taraf will reach a top speed of 195 mph.

When it was new, the fully handcrafted saloon cost $1 million, a price that was far higher than that of a Maybach or Rolls. It was considered too expensive that media questioned whether the car was worth that much. Not only media, even customers also had the same question in mind. Aston Martin didn’t expect to see this modest demand, so the automaker decided to produce only 120 Tarafs out of 200 that were previously planned.

The use of the Arabic name is not without reason, since the Lagonda Taraf was aimed at the Middle East. And yes, it sold well there. What’s quite surprising to us is that one of the 120 Tarafs somehow ended up in the US today, how can it be? Clocking only 284 miles, this particular model is lightly used and is for sale by Lamborghini Newport Beach.

Originally, no Lagonda Tarafs were sold in the US, so this is the first (and is believed to be the only) one that enters the country. According to Lamborghini Newport Beach, the Onyx Black sedan is in the US for purposes of “show or display”, meaning that it must come with less than 2,500 miles on the clock. When we look at the NHTSA’s list of 2017 vehicles that are eligible for show-or-display, we see the Lagonda Taraf included, meaning that this particular model is most probably the reason why the Taraf is on the list.
